Land of the Free

If, according to the US supreme court, corporations are people, will we put the worst offenders on death row?

Since the Supreme Court affirmed Corporations are People under the law, maybe it’s time to start teaching our kids the truth in civics class:

We have a government…

Of the corporations, by the corporations, and for the corporations, “who” are also “free” to pick and choose their rights and responsibilities.

Corporations cannot be executed on death row, as mortals are for their crimes. Corporations are free to obfuscate their responsibility and evade liability with intricate offshore shell games and batteries of lawyers and lobbyists, while the simple man is held strictly responsible for his own hand.

In short, corporations are both free, and unlike mortals, are free to live on forever. US humans, on the other hand, are free to vote every so often for one of the two “electable” candidates who have been largely preordained for them by massive corporate donations and back-room lobbying, but who hold opposing rhetorical views on social themes rarely relevant to corporate well being.

Step 1 – Divide and Conquer.

Step 2 – Meet with and influence the (s)elected officials around the clock, sparing no expense and drafting the laws we will all be held to.

Step 3 – Have computers mail out form-letter responses to the saps who make futile attempts at contacting their elected officials without the use of an army of lobbyists, millions of dollars in gifts (donations to assure continued power), a private jet, tropical island retreat, and other intoxicants.

Humans remain free, free to abide by the laws so enacted, and, if they’re lucky enough, free to work hard at one of the valuable jobs benevolently created for them by the corporations. And, of course, they’re always free to leave the planet when they become frail or injured, while the corporate juggernauts chug along relentlessly, their high beams trained sharply on next quarter’s profits as they roll over anything in their way.

Land of the free.
